It is a ripened ovule consisting of an embryo and, in many seeds, an endosperm all enclosed in an envelope. The embryo is a miniature plant made up of a radicle, a plumule or epicotyl, one or more cotyledon for first leaves, and a hypocotyl connecting the plumule and radicle.
